Large autographed and signed portrait lithograph of Efrem Zimbalist by Leo Katz, matted and framed. The autograph inscription by Zimbalist reads: "To Emil Hermann in remembrance of the Stradivarius Memorial Concert and with friendly greetings from Efrem Zimbalist. December 20, 1937." The lithograph is signed Leo Katz 1937 ("proof") The image area is about 17 1/2 x 21 1/2 inches and the piece measures about 29 x 33 framed. It has been professionally matted and framed in a burl-wood and gold frame under glass. Zimbalist (1889 - 1985) was a pupil of Leopold Auer at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and made his American debut in 1911. His concert career was enormously successful; he did much to revive interest in early violin music. He joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia, in 1928 and from 1941 to 1961 was its director. He composed music for violin, piano, and orchestra. Leo Katz 1887-1940 was a New York modernist painter who created murals, lithographs, miniatures. Lived in LA 1930s. Listed Dawdy, Hughes, Mallett.
